Many of the choices that we make are the ones that will make us the happiest. Too often that is the only way that we make choices when that is the case we find ourselves with the weight of self-indulgence hanging around our necks.
The Apostle Peter urges us to stay away from the passions of the flesh.
At the heart of self indulgence one sees … idolatry.

Self indulgence dulls our spiritual tastes, curbs our spiritual appetites.

Instead of seeking something better we are content with self and the things of this world.
The Apostle Paul gives us a list of obvious self-indulgences.
Just a reminder ... wearing the name of JESUS does not give you or me a license to live as we want.
And then there are some indulgences that do not seem as being out of sorts from the outside ... but on the inside they are. There is a heart problem.
When it comes to self-indulgence it all boils down to ... it's a matter of obedience and joy.
“When all else fails, try obedience. Actually, before all else fails, try obedience.”

Kevin DeYoung
“GOD is most satisfied in us when we are most satisfied in HIM.”

John Piper
The way we lay aside the weight of self-indulgence is through believing a better promise.
