Chestnut Ridge Church
Nine - Part 5: Kindness/Goodness/Gentleness
What are we, as Christians, supposed to be like? What qualities should be evident in our lives? The Apostle Paul, in Galatians 5, listed nine amazing Christ-like attributes that are called, “the fruit of the Spirit.” This series, Nine, will explore these attributes and will answer the question, How do we get them in our lives?

Nine - Part 5: Kindness/Goodness/Gentleness [June 10, 2018] Kevin Deming

In order to love people well when it doesn’t make sense, we need the fruit of kindness, goodness and gentleness overflowing in our lives.

In order to love people well when it doesn’t make sense, we need the fruit of kindness, goodness and gentleness overflowing in our lives.
Hard to Be Loving:
When someone is a Jerk
When someone is too busy
When someone is right
Kindness: The act of using loving words and actions toward others.
Goodness: The motive behind using loving words and actions toward others.
Gentleness: The way that we express the loving words and actions toward others.
Kindness: The very word kindness comes from the cognate word, kinned, that is, one of the same kin or race; acknowledging and reminding us of the fact that all men are brethren — all of the same blood — and therefore they should all act as brethren. All who are of the same kindred should be kind.
–G. S. Bowes.
Goodness in man is not a mere passive quality, but the deliberate preference of right to wrong, the firm and persistent resistance of all moral evil, and the choosing and following of all moral good.
–Easton’s Bible Dictionary
Gentleness: Sensitivity of disposition and kindness of behavior, founded on strength and prompted by love.
–Easton's Bible Dictionary
In order to love people well when it doesn’t make sense, we need the fruit of kindness, goodness and gentleness overflowing in our lives.
Our Response:

1. Make sure you belong to Christ.

2. Evaluate which of the Fruit of the Spirit (kindness, goodness or gentleness) you need for God to grow you more in your life.

3. Pray for Fruit of Spirit in your life and others.
