“The Life of a Learner”
“Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7
“The wise are glad to be instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces.” Proverbs 10:8
THREE TYPES OF UNTEACHABLE PEOPLE
· THE KNOW IT ALL.
“Those who trust their own insight are foolish, but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe.” Proverbs 28:26
· THE BEEN THERE, DONE THAT.
“Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.”
Proverbs 18:2
· THE ONE UPPER.
“Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.” Proverbs 12:15
THE LISTENING HEART …
“Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance.” Proverbs 1:5
· IS HUMBLE.
“Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” Proverbs 11:2
· HAS A DESIRE TO GROW.
“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” Proverbs 27:17
· WILL EMBRACE CORRECTION.
“To learn, you must love discipline. It is stupid to hate correction.” Proverbs 12:1
“People who despise advice are asking for trouble; those who respect a command will succeed. The instruction of the wise is like a life-giving fountain; those who accept it avoid the snares of death.” Proverbs 13:13 - 14
FOUR THINGS LEARNERS DO:
1. LEARNERS INITIATE.
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.” James 1:5a
2. LEARNERS IMPLEMENT.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James 1:22
3. LEARNERS IMPROVE.
“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.” James 3:17
4. LEARNERS INSPIRE.
“And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.” James 3:18
Memory Verse:
“Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.”
Proverbs 19:20
