Getting Started
1.What was helpful to you in this week’s sermon? What didn’t you understand?
2.When was a time that you chose to ignore a difficult truth rather than to respond? What happened? Why do you think you responded the way you did?
Going Deeper
1. Read Matthew 28:1-10 What does the resurrection prove about Jesus? Which ways of Jesus revealing himself have been most impactful to you (ie. Bible, prayer, community… ). How do you want to grow in understanding who Jesus is?
2. Read Matthew 28:11-15 Why did the chief priests respond the way that they did? Why were they so afraid of losing control? What are areas in your life where you are tempted to take control instead of live under Jesus authority?
3. Read Matthew 28:16-20 How did Jesus call his followers to respond by faith? Jesus calls his followers to make disciples by ‘baptizing them’ and ‘teaching them to obey’ God’s Word. What are practical ways that you could talk about Jesus with friends that are not yet Christians? Who are some friends from church or other parts of your life that you could come alongside of and help them grow in Christ? Are there people that you are discipling now that you need to challenge to disciple others?
Application
1. According to Matthew 28:18-20 all authority has been given to Jesus and he will be with us always. How does this challenge you and how does this comfort you in taking steps of faith to make disciples?
2. What’s one thing you can do this week to apply this passage?
