I. Guiding Principle #1: Be Nurtured in Truth

v. 6 - "trained" - to educate, to nurture in a specific way

Question to ask yourself: Who & What is educating your journey in Christianity?

John MacArthur: “The failure to think biblically and theologically has cost the church dearly.”

John Piper: “God is not honored by groundless love. In fact, there is no such thing. If we do not know anything about God, there is nothing in our mind to awaken love. If love does not come from knowing God, there is no point in calling it love for God.”

“Loving God with all our mind means that our thinking is wholly engaged to do all it can to awaken and express the heartfelt fullness of treasuring God above all things.”

II. Guiding Principle #2: Train hard for Godliness

v. 7-8 - There will be many (possibly even good) opportunities for you to place your time, energy and efforts into...

The pursuit of godliness should be the greatest pursuit of your life.
