Fake News (Part 2)- Week 2- Doubt is the Enemy of Faith
There is a problem in the church with spiritual urban legends in the church- beliefs that look valuable at first glance, but reveal themselves to be worthless. These legends sound plausible, they come from reputable sources, and we often accept them without question because who are we to question such true-sounding statements? In fact, I’ve met people who feel like they are bad Christians for simply questioning the veracity of one of these urban legends. Spiritual urban legends aren’t harmless at all. They are dangerous and will eventually bring heartache and disillusionment to those who trust them. But Jesus said that the truth will set you free!

Fake News # 5:
Doubt is the enemy of faith.
Unless you actually push through some honest doubts, you may never experience the depth of faith that you could!
Doubt is the beginning of real, sincere, grounded faith!
The life of Thomas is evidence that even the biggest doubters can one day have the strongest faith.
“Now Thomas (also known as Didymus- or The Twin), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord!’”
- John 20:24-25a
But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
- John 20:25b
Thomas was unwilling to settle for second-hand faith. He wanted a first-hand encounter with the Risen Christ.
If Christ's resurrection is true, then it demands a response.
Thomas was saying: “This is too important to me. I want to know, is this true? Because if it’s true, it changes everything.”
Jesus didn't rebuke Thomas. That wasn't his M.O. Instead, Jesus gave Thomas exactly what he needed!
Thomas then believed in Jesus enough to die for Him. I would ask you this, do you believe enough to live for Him?
Doubt is not the end of real faith. For many people, it is only the beginning.
