We’re not saved by works, but biblical faith works!
TALK IT OVER
1. Take a moment to remember Abraham’s story. (Gen. 12:1-4 and Gen. 15:1-6).
2. Why do you think people try so hard to justify themselves (try to be good enough on their own efforts), and refuse to confess their sin and follow Jesus as Lord?
3. The word “righteous” means “right standing with God” -- In Romans 4:3, how was Abraham made “righteous”--was it by his own work or some other way?
4. Read Romans 4:9-10. Was Abraham credited with righteousness before, or after he was circumcised? Why is this a big deal?
5. What is Paul’s point in Romans 4:14-15? Think about the biblical story. Who came first, Abraham or Moses? Why is this an important point to keep in mind when discussing Abraham whether or not Abraham was made righteous by keeping the Law?
6. How does Romans 4 help us to understand this truth: “We are not saved by works, but biblical faith works”? How does James 2:21-24 help us understand this truth?
