hey
Self Attitude -- blessed are the poor in spirit (the humble)
Sin Attitude -- blessed are those who mourn (over sin) … the meek (submitted to God) … those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
Lord Attitude -- blessed are the merciful (trust in Christ) … the pure in heart (cleansed) … the peacemakers (reconcilers)
World Attitude -- blessed are the persecuted because of righteousness … when people insult you … because of me
Humans are approval seeking SPONGES.
Audience of One (Matthew 6:1-4)
Jesus acknowledges that you will give to the needy, pray and fast. He then cautions you to make sure your MOTIVES are right in doing so.

Matthew 6:1-2

A hypocrite is a person who PRETENDS to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess.

Matthew 6:3-4

You want to avoid your giving to the poor to be MOTIVATED by your desire to gain favor with God, or to gain attention from men.
To live for the praise of MEN is a foolish thing because the glory of man does not last.

1 Peter 1:24

Give so that your right hand won’t even KNOW what your left hand is giving.

Galatians 1:10

Should you never let others know about your GIVING?

Matthew 5:16

EVERYONE in the early church knew that Barnabas had given the income from the sale of his land (Acts 4:34-37).
Peace comes when you do good and do not CARE about your reputation (for doing good) before others.

Discussion Questions:
1. To what degree are you a “people-pleaser”? What is the upside and downside of being a people-pleaser?
2. Is peace always an indicator that a person is in the will of God? Why or why not?
3. Why is hypocritical behavior so repulsive? What is the antidote to being a hypocrite?
4. To what degree do you think your giving should be kept private? Explain.
5. Pray as the Holy Spirit leads for you to live for an audience of One.
