Family Matters - Part 4: Singleness
There are a lot of opinions these days about marriage, family and singleness—opinions that are often contradictory and unhelpful. In this series, Family Matters, we will be looking at various Bible passages to help us understand God’s design and plan for some of the most significant relationships we will ever have.

Family Matters - Part 4: Singleness [April 29, 2018] Tim Haring

Problem: People view singleness in a negative way.

Solution: Singleness can be a gift.

Observations:

• Jesus was not married
• Marriage does not guarantee happiness
• Marriage is not necessary for spiritual maturity
• Masculinity and femininity are not related to whether we are married or
not
• Marriage is not the main story line of our lives
Benefits:

• Singleness provides an opportunity for greater devotion to Christ
“Jesus, if this is your will, then YES to being single. In my deepest heart, I want to marry, to belong to a great man…to know I am linked to his life…and he to mine…following Christ and our dreams together…but you know what I need. If I never marry, it is YES to you.”
- Anderson

Benefits:

• Singleness provides an opportunity for greater devotion to Christ
• Singleness provides an opportunity to take greater risks for God
“Being single has meant that I am free to take risks that I might not take were I a mother or a family dependent on me. Being single has given me freedom to move around the world without having to pack up a household first. And this freedom has brought to me moments that I would not trade for anything else this side of eternity.”
– Taylor
Benefits:

• Singleness provides an opportunity for greater devotion to Christ
• Singleness provides an opportunity to take greater risks for God
• Singleness provides a greater opportunity to serve God and others
