Losing Religion Gaining Christ
“Losing Our Religious Pride”
Luke 18:9-14
What kind of person survives God’s cut?

Religion is relating to God from a place of duty, making the focus our performance and what we can get from Him
“What is pride? These days the word “pride” has positive connotations. It means feeling good about yourself and the things associated with you. When we use it negatively, we think of the arrogant person, someone who is puffed up and egotistical, boasting and strutting about. But that is not really the core of pride. That is just one way the disease of pride presents itself. By another definition, David Brooks
Jesus helps us to diagnose the symptoms of religious pride in our lives
Jesus helps us to understand the right approach to God
“On any team, in any organization, all responsibility for success and failure rests with the leader. The leader must own everything in his or her world. There is no one else to blame. The leader must acknowledge mistakes and admit failures, take ownership of them, and develop a plan to win.”-Jocko Willink
God rejects the religious but accepts the “sinner” who is desperate for His mercy
Jesus gives “sinners” unlimited hope
