We see from the text that the King of Aram being suspicious of a traitor within his inner circle was told that Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the King of Israel where the Arameans are plotting their attack and when.

The King of Aram consequently sends an sizable military force to invade Israel and capture the man of God.

Elisha and his servant woke up the next morning to discover their town was surrounded by the army of the enemy and chariots were every where.
“Don’t be afraid!” Elisha told him. “For there are more on our side than on theirs!” 17 Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!”

Elisha’s prayer “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see” wasn’t for physical sight, but rather for spiritual insight.

FEAR WILL BLIND US TO THE POWER AND THE WORK OF GOD

Then Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes and let him see!”

· “See”, not with his natural eyes but with supernatural insight.
Faith operates in respect to two realms: In the realm of the future and in the realm of the unseen
“Faith is the ability of the human spirit to open up and receive impressions from God that are born from his Word and made alive by the Holy Spirit.”(Jim Cymbala, Fresh Faith,p. 200)

That is why Elisha prayed that his servant’s spiritual eyes be opened.

Verse 17: The Lord opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. (NIV)

Elisha knew that there was greater strength in the unseen reality of the hosts of heaven than in the visible reality of the Aramean forces.
Despite appearances believers are on God's side, and God's side is the winning side.

Jesus said in John 16:33: I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have OVERCOMEthe world. (NIV)

GOD DOES NOT INTEND FOR BELIEVERS TO BECOME PASSIVE VICTIMS OF THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES - TO BE OVERWHELMED

· GOD HAS CALLED US TO BE OVERCOMERS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.
