I Am the Light of the World
John 8:12 NKJV
Acts 26:17-18 NKJV
1) The law reveals our guilt.
John 8:2-5
As Jesus appeared again in the temple courts where all the people gathered around him, he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery."
John 8:6a
They were using this question as a trap in order to have a basis for accusing him.
•Until we see ourselves as sinners, we won't see our need for a savior.
2) The love reveals God's grace.
John 8:6b
But Jesus bent down and He started to write on the ground with His finger.
John 8:7
When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let anyone of you who is without sin, you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
John 8:8-9
He stooped down and wrote on the ground. At this, those who heard began to go away, one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left with the woman still standing there.
John 8:10-11
Jesus straighten up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
“No one sir,” she said.
Jesus said, "Then neither do I condemn you.”
His grace changes everything.
You are not what you did,
you are not what they say you are,
you are who God says you are.
He declares, "Go now and leave your life of sin.”
3) The light reveals our hope.
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness because they will have the light of life.”
When Jesus looked at her and He said, "Neither do I condemn you," at that moment, He was no longer the light of the world. He actually became the light of her world.
