God Gives Us What We Need
Jude 1-2
Author
Jude was probably written in the mid-60s A.D.
Theme
The church must defend the one true faith (v. 3).
Jude 3
“Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.”
Purpose
Jude warns against following false teachers who have infiltrated the church and are distorting the one true faith.
We can contend for the faith because true Christians have a position of honor.
We can contend for the faith because true Christians can have the assurance of salvation.
How?
We are called by God.
We are loved by God.
We are kept by God.
Through the wisdom and might of our great God, whose holiness has been perfectly satisfied by the death of His Son, we are kept by:
His Sovereign Purpose
His Love for the Son
His Work of Discipline
His Sovereign Power
1 Peter 1:5
“…who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
His Holy Spirit’s Presence through…
His Work in Regeneration
Titus 3:5-7
“…he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
His Work of Indwelling
John 14:16
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”
His Work as a Seal
His Work as a Deposit
Ephesians 1:14
“…who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”
2 Corinthians 1:22
“…and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”
We can contend for the faith because true Christians can experience real comfort in the blessings of God.
