By God’s Grace, we have been set free from our chains to self. This freedom comes as the result of the Gospel, Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. One of the reasons Paul so consistently speaks of the resurrection is that it is evidence of the new life in Christ we can have today. Even though Paul is in chains and on trial, he is the freest person in any room he steps into because he is no longer bound by slavery to sin.
What “chains” have you experienced that God has used to draw you to a deeper understanding of His call in your life?
What chains in your life would you wish others to not have to encounter?
What might God be using your chains to do in your life or others?
How do you navigate the chains/detours in your life and still remain true to God’s mission?
In our world today, what are the things that people find most hard to accept about the call of Christianity?
What is your response to the idea that Jesus promises us mission, new life, and purpose with no guarantee that we won’t have any chains?
In what way are you to be a witness to Jesus even in your chains?
Paul wanted everyone to know and experience Jesus.
Is your faith in the resurrected Jesus such that you would wish everyone would trust God like you do – but without enduring whatever thing God is using at the moment to remind you of who He is?
But by the grace of God, we have been set free, given new life – resurrected in Jesus’ resurrection.
Who/what do you use to give yourself identity/meaning?
Can you see that how people answer that question speaks about how they live their life?
How are we called to help one another understand who we really are in Christ?
