My God, My God, Why?

Psalms 22:1

Psalms 22:2

Psalms 22:3

This Psalm is not just expressing sorrow, but it is a Psalm expressing full trust and dependence on God.

Psalms 22:22-25

His cry was not only a deep expression of pain and faith, but also showed the humanity of the Son of God.
Why have You forsaken Me?

There cannot be a more dreadful moment in the history of our world as this moment.

Not only is He in the most intense physical pain, He is about to be engulfed in a raging sea of sin and guilt.

“The Son suffered, being forsaken by the Father, and the Father sovereignly suffered much, inasmuch as He forsook the Son.” ~ Tertullian

John 3:16

1. The Father forsook Jesus because he became SIN.

2 Corinthians 5:21

Habakkuk 1:13

Christ’s work on the cross:
Jesus bears “our transgressions, our sins and our iniquities (Isaiah 53:5)
Jesus was delivered up because of our transgression (Romans 4:25)
He died for our sins according to scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3)
He who knew no sin became sin on our behalf (2 Corinthians 5:21)
2. The Son was forsaken so we could be FORGIVEN

1 Peter 2:24

God is holy and will not tolerate sin.
God is just and will judge sin where it is found.
God is love and devised a way that justice would be satisfied and forgiveness made available.

John 3:17-18
