The Pharisees were preoccupied with grounds for divorce but Jesus was preoccupied with the covenant of Marriage.

- A Consumer relationship
- A Covenant relationship

Now, this does NOT MEAN:

- you’ve just grown apart
- or they’ve gotten annoying
- or you’re just not attracted to them anymore

Divorce should be viewed as something as RADICAL as amputating an arm or a leg.

All scholars on every side of the divorce and remarriage debate agree that it was a given for first century Jews that remarriage was a valid option after a valid divorce. To be granted a legal separation meant de facto that you were no longer bound to anyone and thus free to remarry. No one in Jesus audience was thinking that remarriage wouldn’t be an option.
