Discussion and Application Questions for Group Life Communities
We invite you to use the following questions as you dig deeper into the ways God equips us to be bold in our witness for HIm.
Read John 12:20-36
Observe:
-What key words or ideas come to your mind as you read this passage?
-How would you describe the tone and attitude of Jesus?
-How does Jesus use the metaphor from harvest to explain his work (dying to produce more fruit)?
-How does Jesus describe his death in the passage? see v 24 & 32-34
Interpret:
-Why do you think it’s important for the followers of Jesus to know the truths of verses 24-26?
-What was the purpose or reason for the mission of Jesus? Why does this trouble him at this time of his life? (v27)
-Why did God speak in an audible way? (v 28) Who hears and who does not?
-What does it mean that the ruler of this world has been cast out?
-How would you describe the relationship between the Father and Jesus from this passage?
Apply:
-How does God speak to you?
-Should we expect God to speak to church or community at large? How does God communicate to the community at large? What should we do with conflicting interpretations?
-How can we live our lives so that people will want to 'see Jesus?'
-In light of these words of Jesus, how will these insights change the way you will follow him?
