Saul: The Fall (Part 2)

• A head start doesn't equal heart smarts
• While humility can certainly increase our leadership capacity, pride and disobedience will surely stifle it.
REVIEW of Saul: The Fall (Part 1)

Four things contributed to his fall:
1. Saul was Compulsive.
• He felt obligated to act. (1 Sam. 10:6-8, 13:3-9)
• He felt justified in doing so. (1 Sam. 13:10-14)

Take away for us:
Obedience trumps blame shifting every time.

2. Saul was Calculated.
• Saul ignored God's plan. (1 Sam. 15:1-9)
• Saul usurped God's glory. (1 Sam. 15:10-15)
• Saul sought to reverse a divine decree. (1 Sam. 15:16-35)

Take away for us:
Obedience trumps good intentions every time.
Four things contributed to his fall:

3. Saul was Consumed.
• He was jealous of David's fame.
(1 Sam. 16:1,2, 6-7, 17:41-51, 54, 18:6-11)
Four things contributed to his fall:

3. Saul was Consumed.
• He was jealous of David's fame.
• He was jealous of David's favor.
(1 Sam. 18:12-16, 28-30)

• He was jealous of David's favor.

Take away for us:
Divine favor cannot be bought or corralled.
Four things contributed to his fall:

4. Saul was Calloused.
Near the end, Saul did two especially foolish things:
• He turned to an ungodly source for answers. (1 Sam. 28:1-7, 15-20)
• He turned his sword on himself. (1 Sam. 31:1-6)

Take away for us:
Indifference leads to a fruitless life.
