The Sword of the Spirit [August 23, 2020] Greg Burlile
We should not pit the Spirit of God against the Word of God
"You never get so much of the Spirit that you don't need the Word AND you never get so much of the Word that you don't need the Spirit" - H.B. Charles, Jr.
Why is the Word of God referred to as the "Sword of the Spirit"?

1: The Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) is the author of the the written Word of God (the Bible)

2 Timothy 3:16; Hebrews 4:12

2: The Holy Spirit will wield the Word of God that we have stored up in our hearts

Psalm 119:11; Matthew 4
How Can We Store Up God's Word in Our Hearts?

1: Prayerfully Read, Study, Reflect, and Apply the Bible at least 4 times each week.

2: Gather a few tools to help

A good study Bible (ESV Study Bible or NIV Study Bible)

A pen / highlighter to mark things in your Bible that stick out to you

Choose a book of the Bible to focus on (James or Mark in the New Testament could be a place to start)

A decent devotional commentary can be helpful
