Distracted is defined as:
having one’s thoughts or attention drawn away. Harassed, confused or deranged especially by strong feelings. Inability to concentrate caused by worry, sorrow or anxiety. (Merriam-Webster 1828 edition).
Point 1: Seeking the Kingdom
1. God is waiting for us, to draw near to Him, to long for Him more than any person or anything.
2. Our God’s presence and help in our lives is vital. He is the Source of everything that is valuable and good—without Him, we can do nothing of true value.
3. Spending time with God through prayer and studying His Word is necessary, it is a gift, a must to having a great life and fulfilling the purpose He has for us.
4. Now, we can improve ourselves through discipline and make some progress, but willpower will only take us so far. The truth is that nothing can take the place of having a healthy relationship with God.
5. When it comes to our everyday habits, ask yourself: Am I putting God first?
Point 2: Sitting at the feet of Jesus (Luke 10:38-42 AMPC)
1. She accepted and obeyed God’s Word.
2. Faith & submission-Mary believed what Jesus said & wanted to be taught
3. Showed her Love for Jesus
4. Service-even though she was not working (busy-distracted like Martha by all the preparations), she served God by listening, and being attentive to Him.
Point 3: The World’s Influence (Romans 12:2 ESV; Psalm 1 -2 AMPC)
1. How to dress, look, and who we should date.
2. They tell us as Christians that we cannot celebrate Christmas or even say the name Christmas or Jesus in any public setting.
3. We cannot pray, or read our Bibles at most schools.
4. The world tells us what kind of car to buy and then how to buy it, on their CREDIT!
5. They tell us where to work, how many hours to work, when we can take a vacation, and how much we are worth.
Point 4: Removing Distractions
1. If our career or desire for money or social status are more important to us than pleasing God, we need to get our priorities straight.
2. If a relationship is keeping you from spending time with God and you're looking for that person's attention and approval more than God's.
Conclusion:
1. Meditate on Psalm 1:1-2 and Proverbs 3:6 (AMPC) and Rom. 12:2 from the NET Bible:
2. Pray and ask God to show you practical steps you can take to make Him your top priority every day!
3. Thank God for giving us the best gift ever, His Son Jesus, stay focused, God has brought you too far to ever give up!
4. Finally, during this Christmas season, slow down, read the story about the Birth of Jesus & then teach your children and others the true meaning of Christmas this year. (starting at Luke chpt. 1&2) Luke gives great details.
