Week 2 - Receiving the King
by James Yu & Jenny Pan
Read the news. World leaders convene, making deals or breaking agreements. Economic gurus plot, profiting from their schemes. ISIS supporters kill, spreading fear. New policies, rules, and regulations are making people confused: no more “mom and dad” or “boys & girls” in schools, and no more “Ladies and Gentlemen” on the subway. Though we may feel powerless in such a world like this, the reality is that the Anointed one has already overcome the world.
Psalm 2 gives us two realities: on the earth and in the heavens. Even though the Gentile kings rebel against God and the Messiah (v.1-3), God ridicules them and reigns in heaven (v.4-6). The Messiah proclaims God’s promise of his authority over the nations on earth (v.7-9); and therefore, the Psalter calls for the kings’ submission (v.10-12).
The King of Judea, the high priest, the elders of the Jews, the tetrarch of Galilee, and the Roman Governor of Judea did rebel against God and take counsel together against his Messiah Jesus. They even killed him. However, God raised Jesus from the dead and gave him all the authority in heaven and on earth. Now his kingdom is still growing on the earth. One day, the kingdom of the world will become the kingdom of God and of his Messiah, and he will reign forever and ever. Blessed are all who take refuge in him!
Spend some time praising the Lord for keeping his promises and praying that his kingdom may extend to the ends of the earth soon.
