Week 2 - Receiving the King
by Heidi and Joe White
The prophet Simeon was promised he would see the Messiah before he died (v. 25-28). It’s an incredible wonder that Jesus left the comfort of the Divine family to spend time with the human family - not as a visitor, but as a flesh and blood member of our race…and more than that, a Messiah, a savior! What a mind-blowing thought! Simeon says that Jesus’ arrival brings salvation (v. 30), light (v. 32a) and glory (v. 32b). I hope and pray that this Christmas season is filled with you opening your heart to “Jesus the salvation”, salvation that comes through a personal relationship with Him; “Jesus the light” who guides your life’s daily choices; and “Jesus the glory”, our reminder that when we look at Jesus we are looking at God. Simeon had the chance to see Jesus before he died and so do you. Don’t let this Christmas pass without declaring what Simeon did: I have seen you, Jesus, and you are my salvation, my light, and the God of God.
