The Prominence of the Second Coming in Scripture

1,527 Old Testament passages refer to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ

Out of the approximately 8,000 verses in the New Testament, 330 of them (1 out of every 25) deals with the Second Coming

Next to the subject of faith, no subject is more often mentioned in the Bible than the return of Christ

For every time the first coming of Jesus is mentioned, His Second Coming is mentioned 8 times

The Lord Himself referred to His Second Coming 21 times)
The Second Coming of Jesus is different than the Rapture of the Church

There are two passages of Scripture that speak of the catching away of the church (John 14:2-3) (see also 1 Thessalonians 4 :16-17)

At the rapture Christ does not come to the earth (as He does at the Second Coming) but he meets His church in the air

At the rapture He comes FOR His Saints at the Second Coming He comes WITH His Saints
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 NASB1995

The Chronology of the Second Coming

It begins with fearful manifestations in the skies (Matthew 24:29; Luke 21:25-26; Zechariah 14:6-7; Revelation 6:12-14)
The heavens open and Jesus comes forth with the purpose of judging and waging war (Matthew 24:30) [See alsoRevelation 1:7; 19:11]
His description is opposite that of Antichrist seen in Revelation 6:1-2

They both were on a white horse
The Antichrist had a bow; Christ has a sword
The Antichrist had a crown; Christ has many crowns
The Antichrist is an imposter; Christ is “faithful and true”
He returns with the armies of heaven (Revelation 19:14)

This includes the saints (same clothing description as the church at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb in Revelation 19:7-8; see also Zechariah 14:5 and 1 Thessalonians 3:13)

This includes angels (2 Thessalonians 1:6-7; Also Matthew 25:31)

We don’t fight - The Lord does with His very words (Revelation 19:15)
Before coming to Jerusalem, Christ proceeds to Bozrah (Petra) where many of the remnant of Israel is in hiding (Isaiah 63:1)

Remaining Israel sees Jesus, and believes and follow Him, on foot to Jerusalem

Romans 11:26 – all Israel will be saved
Zechariah 12:10 – they will see Him who they pierced & repent
Jeremiah 31:33 – God gives Israel a new heart and spirit
The returning Savior touches down upon the Mt of Olives causing a great earthquake (Zechariah 14:4)

Returning to the Mt of Olives is a direct fulfillment of Acts 1:11

Earthquake is a fulfillment of Nahum 1:5 and Isaiah 24:19-21

The final judgement of Revelation includes a great earthquake and 100 pound hailstones (Revelation 16:17-21)

This earthquake forms a valley running east to west from Jerusalem to the Mt of Olives as the Mt of Olives splits in two from north to south (Zechariah 14:4)

This valley allows the Jewish remnant to escape Jerusalem (Zechariah 14:5)

This is also the Valley of Decision spoken of by the prophet Joel where Christ will bring the nations to judge them (Joel 3:14)

This is the same as the judgement of the sheep and goats spoken of by Jesus in Matthew 25:31-33)
