The Name: Jehovah Rophe

· Jehovah is the personal, intimate name of God

· Rophe means to heal, restore, repair, to make whole

· Rophe is used regarding physical healing (Psalm 103:2-3)

· Rophe is used regarding emotional healing (Psalm 147:3)

· Rophe is used regarding spiritual healing (Jeremiah 3:22)


The Story: God Makes Bitter Water Sweet – Exodus 15

· God delivers the Children of Israel out of Egypt through 10 plagues

· God miraculously delivers the Children of Israel through the Red Sea

· God destroys the Egyptian armies in the Red Sea

· Israel throws an awesome worship service

· As they travel from the Red Sea, for 3 days they find no water

· They finally came to Marah a place with water, but the water was bitter, just like the children of Israel

· God turns the bitter waters of Marah to sweet water for them to enjoy

· God establishes His first conditional covenant with Israel – obey Me and I will bless you


The Takeaway: God heals and redeems broken lives

· Jehovah Rophe mends broken lives and makes them whole

· When we walk in obedience to Jesus He will bring healing to our heart

· Jehovah Rophe and physical healing
o God chooses to temporarily heal and to not temporarily heal
o The heart of our Christian world-view is a 2-world view
o In this life God heals everyday through the processes that He has set in motion
o God also at times heals miraculously – through ways we do not understand
o Within the church, James lays out a protocol for seeking that miraculous healing (James 5:14-16)
o Jehovah Rophe does not promise temporary healing, what He promises is eternal healing
o The healing provided by the cross has provided for the redemption of our soul, which has already taken place (Romans 3:24, Ephesians 1:7)
o The cross also provides for the redemption of our body, which we still anticipate while on this earth (Romans 8:23)
o We should pray for physical healing, believe that God can miraculously give temporary healing, but we should always be open to His mercy of bringing ultimate provision and trust Him with the healing of hearts that our left
