Today, we continue our series "If... Then..." Throughout this series we have discovered how to apply several of the "If... Then..." passages from the Bible to our lives. This morning, we will examine a double "If... Then..." passage in order to uncover something important about our relationship with God.

My Grandmother (Gram) taught me something very important about prayer...
If we ask according to God's will, Then God hears us!
We think that when we pray, we need to get God on our side, when we really need to get on God's side!
We need to understand our own selfishness and despise it!
If we ask according to God's will, Then God hears us!
If God hears us, Then we recieve what we ask for.
If God hears us, Then we receive what we ask for.
If we ask according to God's will, Then we receive what we ask for!
Let's get the ear of The Lord by praying His will be done.
The best place to find God's will is in The Bible.
Pray what the Bible says!
Here's an example using John 17:15-18:
1. Jesus, would you please keep me safe from the evil one?
(Lord, I am struggling with this problem, I feel attacked, this challenge came out of nowhere... would you please help me overcome?)
2. Jesus, would you please keep me from belonging to this world?
(Lord, at work, at school, with my family, with another person... it's been hard to do the right thing, would you help me do what you want? Lord, there are things that I do that I know I shouldn't, even though other people do it, would you help me change?)
3. Jesus, would you please help me live the way that You think I should?
(Lord, I read something from the Bible and I know I need to change but it's so hard, would you help me? Lord, I read something from the Bible that I know is a good thing but it seems really hard. I don't know if I can do it, but I want to try. Would you please help me?)
4. Jesus, will you help me understand and apply The Bible to my life?
(Lord, I'm not sure I understand what I just read out of the Bible, will you help me see what you are trying to tell me? Lord, will you show me how you want me to put what I just read into practice?)
5. Jesus, who do you want me to talk to about starting a relationship with You?
(Lord, thank You for giving up all of heaven to come and find me! Father, thank You for sending Your Son to find me and bring me home! Would you help me to be the kind of person that is ready and able to talk to others about how they can connect with You?)
Let's get the ear of The Lord by praying His will be done.
