What is a Natural Man and a Spiritual Man?
Character of the Natural Man – The Soul Man
Lives by human / Worldly Wisdom - Does not accept the things of the Spirit of God

Spiritual things seem foolish (they don’t meet the standard of fleshly wisdom)

Cannot understand spiritual things – The Bible and the work of the Spirit

Lacks the ability to discern spiritual things
Fleshly Mind > Death / Spiritual Mind > Life & Peace
“Wisdom” that leads to strife and trouble
Temporary & Inadequate, Sensual – Driven by our appetites, Devilish
Immaturity in Faith and Fleshliness go hand in hand
Mere humans (as compared to what we ought to be)
Thayer Definition:“Natural” psuchikos
having the nature and characteristics of the breath; the principal of animal life, which men have in common with the brutes; governed by breath; the sensuous nature with its subjection to appetite and passion
The Natural Man is incapable of being anything else – In Life, we produce according to what we are
What is a Spiritual Man?
Character of a Spiritual Man
Has the Holy Spirit – Has the Life that is from God

Knows the things of God & What he has from God

Is Taught by the Holy Spirit – Is able to think with the Mind of Christ (WWJD)

Able to discern and Understand spiritual things

Natural men are not able to understand the inner workings of the spiritual man
Thayer Definition: “spiritual” pneumatikos
relating to the human spirit, or rational soul, as part of the man which is akin to God; belonging to the Divine Spirit; one who is filled with and governed by the Spirit of God
New Life is in Receiving and Following the Spirit of God
Life at the Crossroads – Live to the Spirit or Live to the Flesh – Led by the Spirit or Grieve / Quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 519; Ephesians 4:30)
