If the Foundations are Destroyed - Psalm 11

If the Foundations are Destroyed - Psalm 11

We are living in a cultural moment that feels as though the foundations are being shaken to the core. During this time, who (or what) preserves your life? We may be quick to say to God, “My life is in your hands,” but when the going gets tough, our response may reveal that we don’t really believe what we claim. Psalm 11 gives us the perspective we need to answer the question it poses: “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

4. Think about the definitions given for wickedness and righteousness (wickedness = disadvantaging the community to advantage self; righteousness = disadvantaging self to advantage the community). Where do you see both of these played out in the world around you? How do you see them play out in your own life?
5. When you think about Jesus’ life, how do you see him combat wickedness? How did he demonstrate righteousness to his disciples, his community, and even his enemies?
6. What practice can you cultivate to declare Jesus as your refuge every single morning? Be specific.
7. Who do you need to begin listening to, serving, and loving? How can you demonstrate righteousness in your specific community?
8. Go back and read Psalm 11. Then, put yourself in the place of David: pray the Psalm. Make it a conversation between you and God.
