http://www.miefree.org/Here are the names as seen in Ezekiel 38 – many of which identify certain grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Noah (Genesis 10)
Gog (v1)
Gog is not a descendant of Noah listed in Genesis 10
The name Gog is found 11 times in Ezekiel 38-39
Gog is a title which means “ruler” or “man on top”
This is not a nation but an individual
This is not the Antichrist
Magog
Meschech, Tubal and Gomer(v1-2) are all sons of Japheth and grandsons of Noah [Genesis 10:2]
Beth-togarmah (v6)
is the son of Gomer; Grandson of Japheth and Great-Grandson of Noah [Genesis 10:3]
Rosh (v1), Persia (v5), Ethiopia (v5) and Put (v5)
The area of Magog (ancient Scythia) fits the area of nations that were formerly part of the Soviet Union (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan; Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and possibly Afghanistan)
Rosh Ezekiel’s day was a nation of people living north of the Black Sea
Proof that Magog and Rosh identify with Modern Day Russia
Geographical Proof
Three times Ezekiel tells us that this invading nation will come from the (literally translated from the Hebrew) “uttermost part of the north” (Russia fits description)
The ancient Jewish historian, Josephus (first century A.D.), assures us that the descendants of Magog (who was Japheth’s son and Noah’s grandson) migrated to an area north of Palestine
Even prior to Josephus, Greek historian Herodotus (fifth century B.C.) writes that Meshech’s descendants settled north of Palestine
Linguistic Proof
“Rosh” is the root of the modern term “Russia” (in the study of how ancient words come into modern meaning, it is quite common for the consonants to remain the same and the vowels to be changed)
Some see the two terms “Mesheck” and “Tubal” as corresponding with some prominent words in Russia, though this is most likely not the case
“Mesheck” is similar to “Moscow” (a Russian city)
“Tubal” is similar to “Tobolsk” (a Russian Province)
“Mesheck” and “Tubal” are more likely parts of the present nation of Turkey
Mesheck, Tubal, Gomer and Togarmah together = Modern Day Turkey
Persia = Modern Day Iran (Persia is mentioned 35 times in the Old Testament)
Ethiopia (Cush) = Northern Ethiopiaand Sudan
Libya (some render this as Put) = Modern Day Libya
