The Temptation of Convenience
· The story of Jeroboam – 1 Kings 12
· Jeroboam sold disobedience to the Lord under the disguise of convenience
· Israel never recovered from the sin of Jeroboam
· We live in a culture that values convenience
· Convenience is not sin, but we must be careful it doesn’t move us away from obedience
Following Jesus Does Not Always Lead to a Convenient Lifestyle
· Jesus called us to follow Him
· Following Jesus is the best life possible
· There are many conveniences in our culture that can help us follow Him
· But these same cultural conveniences can become impediments to doing what we are called to do and who we are called to be
Actively Connecting in Community is Seldom Convenient, but Necessary to Follow Jesus
· One area that our cultural conveniences tend to take us away from is community
· We are made and redeemed for community
· Discipleship happens in relationships, not solely through apps, programs and “how to” classes (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)
· The inconveniences of community are many: Commitment/accountability, Time, Energy, Disappointment/pain/loss
· We are called to be connected to the community of Christ
· One way to be intentional about connecting with our brothers and sisters in Jesus is through Connect Groups
