https://www.miefree.orgThe context of James 1:19-21 deals with the Word of God
When it comes to the Bible, three commands are given
Be quick to hear
We are to be quick to hear the Word of God
The usage of the word “hearing” as opposed to “reading”
shows that the usual way that the early church received the Word was by hearing it
We learn by listening more than we do by speaking (Proverbs 17:28)
In the context of the Word of God, the admonition is a caution against arguing with Scripture
We are not to interpret Scripture through the lens of our own ideas but rather through the lens of what it literally teaches
Be slow to anger
“Anger” does not refer to an explosive outburst but rather a deep, inner abiding resentment
This is anger or resentment at the truth of God’s Word as it convicts us of sin (Galatians 4:16)
The SCOPE involved - The same three commands can also be good rules when it comes to posting on social mediaThe SPECIFICS involved
When it comes to social media, be quick to hear!
Strive for CONNECTION, not ATTENTION
Learn to listen better
When it comes to social media, be slow to post!
Pray before you post
Be transparent but no too transparent
Remember, when you are online you are on a stage
Don’t repost or share without confirmation of truth
Ask yourself…
Could I say this same thing in front of someone?
Have I earned the right to address this subject?
Do I have enough of a relationship to offer my opinion?
When it comes to social media, be slow to anger!
Don’t buy into the “say what needs to be said” culture
Avoid stirring the pot with the articles you share
Avoid being mean/condescending when you disagree
Never post when you are angry
When you post, let your words be seasoned with grace (Colossians 4:5-6)
