Sent Church
Consider the Source - Week 2
Because we spend much of our energy focusing on where we’re going in life, it can be easy to neglect where we came from. However, if we remember where we’ve been and all that God has done to get us where we are, we find the strength we need to sustain us on our life’s journey.

Consider The Source
Week 2: "The Discipline of Connecting and Disconnecting"
Dwight Nash

2 Problems
Unbelieving - Not connected enough to God.
Perverse - Too connected to the world.

2 Solutions - Matthew 17:21
"...but by prayer and fasting."

1. Prayer - Connects us to God.
2. Fasting - Disconnects us from the world.

21 Days of Prayer and Fasting: August 20-September 9

Biblical Basis for Fasting
Matthew 9:14-15 | Acts 13:2-3 | 2 Corinthians 11:27 NKJV

Body - Connects you to yourself.
Soul - Connects you to others.
Spirit - Connects you to God.

3 Things to do before next week

Set your objective.
What kind of fasting will you do?
Expect results. (Isaiah 58:8-9)
21 Days of Prayer & Fasting - Fasting Insights

On August 20th, we will kick off 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting in anticipation of a great fall here at Sent Church. In order to help you prepare for this powerful spiritual exercise, we'd like to provide you with some fasting methods to prayerfully consider over the next week.

Full Fast: Drink only liquids
Daniel Fast: ??Eat no meat, no sweets and no bread. Drink water and juice. Eat fruits and vegetables
One Item: Give up one type of food (meat, sweets, etc)
Partial Fast: ??A partial fast is from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm or from sun up to sundown. You can select from three types of fasting —a Full Fast, Daniel Fast or give up at least one item of food.
Media Fast: ?Abstain from Facebook, TV, smartphone, etc

Small Group Questions

??• ???Where are you overly connected with the world these days and disconnected from God?

???• ???Share your viewpoint on prayer and fasting. Discuss why you believe going all in during the 21 Days of prayer will help you to experience God at a higher level.

???• ???Explain your need for God, then share how it looks to depend on Him. What practical steps need to be taken for you to rely on Him entirely?

???• ???Share what you are believing God to do in your life over these three weeks. What are looking forward to most? Healing? Holiness? Hope?
Family Resources & Connections - Ideas to encourage your family @Home Faith Talks.

As a family:

• ???Share with each other one thing that stood out to you in Pastor Dwight's sermon.

?• ?How does prayer connect us to God?

?• ??Family challenge: Make a plan together on how your family can increase your family prayer time. The challenge begins next Sunday. What in the current schedule might need to change to make this possible? Consider a creative way to celebrate this plan--perhaps write out the plan and have everyone sign, then display it somewhere each of you will see every day during the 21 days.

??• ?Pray together as a family thanking God for the opportunity to draw closer to Him as a family and as the Sent Church family.
