As the psalmist considers the majesty of God reflected in His creation, he begins to wonder, “What is man that you take thought of him?” Why does the God of all things take the time to even pay attention to creatures like us, on this small ball speeding through the unimaginably vast universe? But then he remembers that God has created us in a very special way. We are a little less than God. He has crowned us with glory and, yes, majesty! He has charged us with responsibility. We are to rule over all the earth and He has put all things under our feet – all animals, birds and fish. We are made in His image! We are His greatest creation out of all He created! Take time to meditate on glory and majesty of God and your own significance as His crowning creation!
● Take time to write out this psalm as an act of meditation.
● This psalm has been referred to as the nature psalm. Why do you think that is?
● What does this psalm tell you about your own personal significance to God?
● What does it tell you about the value of all mankind?
● Does this change how you view yourself and/or other people? How?
● What does this passage tell you about the wisdom of God compared to the “wisdom” of the world?
● How do unbelievers see the Gospel? What is their typical reaction to it?
● Why do people have a hard time believing God’s truth? What are the Jews looking for? What are the gentiles (Greeks) looking for?
● What kind of people does God call into His kingdom according to this passage?
● Meditate on verses 27-29. Can you see evidence of God doing this today?
● What does verse 30 tell you about Jesus? He is the smartest, wisest person who ever lived!
● What does it mean to be “in Christ Jesus?”
● Why can we boast in the Lord and not in ourselves?
● What does this passage tell you about whom you are in Christ?
● What do you think it means to be born of God?
● What does this passage tell you about Jesus? The Word became flesh!
● Meditate on the fact that God, the Word, became flesh and dwelt among us. What does that tell you about our significance in God’s eyes? He became human!
● Write these four verses out by hand. Meditate on everything they tell you about Jesus.
● He is the exact representation of His (God the Father) nature. If you want to see what God is like, look at Jesus. Meditate on this fact.
● Jesus is heir of all things and the One through whom God made the world. Praise Him!
● Meditate on the fact that you have been called by God according to His purpose. What does that mean to you?
● He foreknew you and predestined you to be conformed to the image of His Son.
● What do you think it would be like to be conformed to the character of Jesus; to be like Him? Meditate on this truth. It is the life to which God has called you and all followers of Jesus.
● What does this passage say about your significance?
● Notice that John says we are now children of God. We are not what we will be when God is finished transforming us. Meditate on this truth.
● How would seeing Jesus just as He is make us like Him?
● Reading the Gospels is the best way for us to “see Him” just as He is. How much time do you spend reading the Gospels and meditating on the character of Jesus? How do you think that would impact your character?
