Acts 24
“Paul on Trial 1”
In God’s economy obstacles can become opportunities; friction can create traction that propels the Gospel forward and us…
The determining factor will be how we perceive and respond to the obstacles and setbacks in our lives.
The three P’s:
· Personalize
· Pervasive
· Permanent
“WHAT IS PERCEPTION? It’s how we see and understand what occurs around us—and what we decide those events will mean. Our perceptions can be a source of strength or of great weakness. If we are emotional, subjective and shortsighted, we only add to our troubles. To prevent becoming overwhelmed by the world around us, we must, as the ancients practiced, learn how to limit our passions and their control over our lives.” -Ryan Holiday
Philippians 1:12 I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel,
Philippians 1:13 So that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guardand to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ.
Philippians 1:14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the wordwithout fear.
Philippians 1:19 For I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance,
Philippians 1:20 As it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.
Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
“For to me to live…”
“Do you know what a Christian says in response to that? You look at that, and you look at that, and you look at that. You think about that, and you think about that, and you think about that. After a while, it just changes you. Do you know why? Because you look and you say, “Jesus Christ, my brother, my friend, my Shepherd, my High King, my Prince, my Savior, if for you to live is me, well, then for me to live is you.” -Tim Keller
Challenge: What’s your definition of life? If it doesn’t echo Paul’s definition of life, then with God’s help let’s begin to redefine it.
