AS WE GATHER in worship, we are reminded that because of the craziness of COVID-19, we are all having to pivot from our “normal.” We are trying to figure out what life, relationships, work, money, etc. look like. Romans 8 is a pivot chapter in the book of Romans. Our new life in Christ is marked with life and peace instead of chaos and death. We are marked with freedom instead of slavery. We pivot from worry into prayer. We pivot from condemnation to victory. What an essential chapter for us to be immersing ourselves in this summer! Today we “Pivot to Peace.”

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION:
Pastor: Since we are assembled here to hear God’s Word and to call upon Him in prayer, let us confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed. Let us realize also that by our own strength we cannot free ourselves from our sinful nature. Therefore we take refuge in our heavenly Father’s infinite mercy, trusting that His grace through Jesus forgives our sins and renews our live.
We confess:
All: Almighty God, have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and lead us to life everlasting. Amen.

Pastor: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us and has given His only Son to die for us and for His sake forgives us all our sins. To those who believe in Him, He gives new and eternal life, for “He who believes and is baptized shall be saved.” You are the forgiven children of God!
All: Amen.

THE PSALM FOR THE DAY: Psalm 85:8-10
P: Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints;
C: but let them not turn back to folly.
P: Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him,

PRAYER OF THE DAY:
P: Lord Jesus, we live in a time of troubles and trials. Ours is a world that seeks peace, but does not know where to find it. Give us Your peace--the peace that passes understanding--that we may, in the midst of a troubled world, live in the confidence that Your love never fails. We ask this in Your name and to Your glory.
C: Amen.
APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
