Gotta Serve Somebody
Romans 6:15-23
I Serve One Of Two Masters.
1. Human beings are only offered two options:
· When I serve sin or self, it’s a form of slavery to or serving the devil. Romans 8:7-8
· When I serve obedience or righteousness, it’s a form of “slavery” to or serving Jesus.
2. What slavery to sin or the devil looks like:
· His favorite strategy of all is to work undetected in my life.
· He convinces me that personal freedom is all about self-indulgence or pleasing myself.
3. What “slavery” to Jesus looks like:
· Paradoxically, it results in true, personal freedom. John 8:34, 36
· I’m free from sin’s absolute power.
· I now have the freedom to become who God wants me to be.
I Demonstrate Whom I Serve.
1. The inevitable result (a wage) of slavery to sin or the devil is death in its many forms. Galatians 5:19-21
2. God can never pay me a wage because He never owes anyone. He can only give gifts.
3. The inevitable result (a gift) of serving Jesus is life in its many forms. Galatians 5:22-23
