Parenting from the Tree of Life | Rm #224
It has been said that there are two significant moments in life. The first is the moment you are born; the second is the moment you discover why you were born. Parenting from the Tree of Life is not an easy task, in this age of uncertainty, where declining cultural values put enormous stress on families, especially on those parents who still believe there are standards of right and wrong and everyday courtesies worth instilling into their children.

II Samuel 13:20-38

I. A father can bring healing to his family tree by refusing to scapegoat
2 Samuel 13:20-22
Quote:

It seems quite clear from all that follows, one of the family-failings of David was that he had been too easy-going with and indulgent toward his children, allowing his natural affections to override his better judgment, instead of the judgment guiding the affections…
Arthur Pink
II. A father can heal his family through acknowledging and practicing that time does not heal all wounds
2 Samuel 13:23-29
Quote:

But the sun had not gone down upon Absalom’s wrath: a deadly fire burned in his heart which two full years had no power to quench, his crafty soul biding its time until a way opened to let out his rage on its victim.
Arthur Pink
III. Fathers can heal their family tree by preventing the transformation of grief to shame
2 Samuel 13:30-39
