Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

DISCIPLE PART 4: Learning to follow Jesus Voice

Mark 3:13-15 NKJV

13 And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. 14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, 15 and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons:

· Jesus calls the ones He wants to be disciples

· The ones who answers His call are appointed by Jesus

Appointed: to be made or authored, to be set in a place & time, ordained

· The first appointment is to be with Jesus

· The second appointment is to be sent by Jesus

to preach.

· The third appointment is to be empowered to heal sickness & cast out demons

1.Being with Jesus means you need to learn to listen to His voice

John 10:14-16 NKJV

14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. 15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16 And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

· The good shepherd knows His own sheep and they know him

John 10:27 NKJV

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

· Sheep have to learn the voice of the true Shepherd

1 Kings 19:11-12 NKJV

And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

· Hear God’s voice through a dream

Job 33:14-18 LB

14 “For God speaks again and again, 15 in dreams, in visions of the night when deep sleep falls on men as they lie on their beds. 16 He opens their ears in times like that and gives them wisdom and instruction, 17-18 causing them to change their minds, and keeping them from pride, and warning them of the penalties of sin, and keeping them from falling into some trap.

Hear God’s voice speak through His written Word

2 Timothy 3:15-17 MESSAGE

There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

God can speak to you by His spirit in many different ways and settings. Don’t put God in a box!

Exodus 3:2-4 MEV

2 The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush, and he looked, and the bush burned with fire, but the bush was not consumed. 3 So Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.” 4 When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him from out of the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses. ”And he said, “Here am I.”

· Moses turned aside to hear God’s voice

1 Samuel 3:3-10 MEV

3 and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the Lord where the ark of God was.4 Then the Lord called to Samuel, and he answered, “Here I am.” 5 He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called to me.”And he said, “I did not call. Return, lie down again.” And he went and lay down.6 The Lord called Samuel again. So Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.”And he answered, “I did not call, my son. Return, lie down again.”7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor had the word of the Lord been revealed to him.8 The Lord again called Samuel a third time. So he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.”Then Eli understood that the Lord was calling to the boy. 9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down. And it will be, if He calls you, that you will say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant listens.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.10 The Lord came and stood, and He called as at other times, “Samuel, Samuel.”Then Samuel said, “Speak, for Your servant listens.”

· Samuel was in a posture to hear the voice of the Lord by lying near the ark

· Samuel had to be told how to respond to the voice of the Lord by Eli the priest

“Speak, for Your servant listens.”

Isaiah 6:8 MEV

8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me.”

· When you follow and obey Jesus it will be more than worth the sacrifice, there is something in it for you!

Matthew 19:27-30 NKJV

27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?”

28 So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.
