One of the Big Ideas I want to get across is that God is a God of JOY.

John 15:11

“It is a glorious thing for God to be as happy as He is. God’s glory consists much in the fact that He is happy beyond our wildest imagination.” John Piper

Unless you see God as being joyful, you will inevitably see God’s restrictions (Don’t do this) as being God taking away our fun. You will inevitably misinterpret God as being prudish, victorian, and outdated, instead of wanting to protect something sacred and beautiful for you out of love and joy.

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?… when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” Job 38:4, 7

Revelation 4:10-11

But we live in between these two events of creation and restoration, these two moments when life works the way it is supposed to work. We live in between when…sin has entered the world…genders compete instead of complement…covenants are broken not kept…and the beauty of sex is distorted.

Genesis 2:18-25

Genesis 3:1

A Theology of Sex, continued…
(1) Your standard of beauty is…your spouse.

Job 31:1

57% percent of pastors say that porn addiction is the ‘most damaging issue’ to their congregations. About one-third of evangelical pastors have a porn problem.

But Sin almost always gives you less than it promises, and costs more than you think.

The thing I want you to realize is that the problem isn’t WILLPOWER. It's a different part of your brain that gets aroused by porn—the limbic system…And the limbic system is simply stronger than the than the part of the brain that is fueled by will power.

(2) The Hard Truths of Scripture Have Our Rescue Hidden within them.

Ephesians 5:5

Colossians 3:5

Romans 12:1-2

Worship is what you do with your body. It is not just physical; it’s deeply spiritual, and you’re offering your body as a sacrifice, either to the glory of God or to worship a false god. And the question is not, “Are you a worshiper?” The question is, “Who or what is the object of your worship?”

“Knowing the supremacy of Christ ENLARGES THE SOUL so that sex and its thrills become as small as they really are. But LITTLE SOULS make LITTLE LUSTS have GREAT POWER.” John Piper

(3) Marriage is about friendship, and friendship is about being known.
