The Power of Prayer
James 5:13-20
1. Pray when there is suffering.
A. The Bible teaches there will be suffering in this world.
John 16:33 “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
Psalm 34:19 “Many adversities come to the one who is righteous, but the Lord delivers him from them all.”
B. Christians are not exempt from suffering.
2. Pray when there is joy and struggle.
A. Praise is a form of prayer.
Psalm 150:6“Let everything that breathes praise the Lord. Hallelujah!”
Isaiah 25:1 “Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You. I will praise Your name, for You have accomplished wonders, plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.”
B. Praise is based on the fact there is joy in knowing the Lord.
Acts 16:25 “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.”
Psalm 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart rejoices, and I praise Him with my song.”
3. Pray when there is sickness.
A. The Body of Christ should be involved in praying for the sick. Vs. 14-15.
B. Prayer is a powerful weapon.
4. Pray when fellow Christians are struggling with sin.
A. Christians need each other to defeat the power of sin.
B. Christians can be a mighty force in helping others defeat sin in their lives.
