4 Scenes where the disciples lacked understanding
Luke 9:46-48, Luke 9:49-50, Luke 9:52-56, Luke 9:57-62
I will follow Jesus wherever
Fear says, "I want to follow, but what if. . .?"
Saying "yes" to Jesus almost always means saying "no" to your comfort
I will follow Jesus whenever
Really? How about now?
Most people who are not following Jesus don't say "no," they are really saying, "not right now." The problem is, "not right now" usually becomes "never."
I will follow Jesus whatever
"The one thing we are most reluctant to give up (time, money, activities, etc) is the one thing that has the most potential to become a substitute for Jesus." - p205
Think about this during the upcoming week: "The truest thing about you is not that you are divorced. The truest thing about you is not that you cheated or were cheated on. The truest thing about you isn't that you dropped out at got kicked out or were locked up or slept around. The truest thing about you is not that you are addicted, evicted, or convicted. Those things may be true of you, but that's not the truest thing about you. That may be who you were; that's not who you are. You have a new identity in Christ. You are not the names that they called you in junior high. You are not what your friends said about you behind your back. You are not what your coach yelled at you. You are not how your boyfriend treated you. They were wrong about you.
You are adopted (Ephesians 2:19)
You are chosen (Colossians 3:12)
You are called (Ephesians 4:1)
You are a follower (Luke 9:23)
That's who you are
Now go live it out.
