Eugene Peterson paraphrases Ephesians 4:29 in the Message Bible :
“watch the walk you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift.”

Definition of unwholesome : “not characterized by or conducive to health or moral well-being. unhealthy, poisonous, harmful, destructive, damaging.

The fourth way we can have a positive impact with our words.

4. Our words can plant love and beauty.

Galatians 6:7-8The Message (MSG)
7-8 Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.
