Grace, Not Perfection

I Will Hold Myself to a Standard of Grace Not Perfection!

Perfect

(Adjective): having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be

(Verb): make something completely free of faults or defects, or as close to such a condition as possible

PERFECTION IS, BROADLY, A STATE OF COMPLETENESS AND FLAWLESSNESS

· It is centered on self (pride)

· Requires efforts to be made in your own strength

· Requires one to focus on what is wrong, defective, and undesirable

· Perfection does not equate to righteousness

· It is a harsh task master—always finding more to do for the quest for perfection

· Perfection does not necessarily improve self-worth

Grace God’s unmerited favor; getting something favorable that you did not earn

· Is centered on God and His completed work on the cross (humility)

· Let’s you trust in God’s ability to move in your life—putting you over the top

· Draws you to the beauty of God’s love and goodness towards us

· Grace points to your righteousness in Christ Jesus

· Reminds you how valuable/precious you are in the sight of God that He would die for you

HOW TO HOLD YOURSELF TO THE STANDARD OF GRACE NOT PERFECTION

1. Keep your eye on Jesus: Avoid looking back and holding yourself hostage to your past mistakes, influences, decisions, and experiences.

2. Find your self-worth in Jesus Christ: it doesn’t exist in the futile comparison of yourself to others.

3. Celebrate the small victories. It keeps you in the moment and will always point you to God.

4. Face the giants. You will learn that you have nothing to fear; because of the legitimacy of your son-ship/ daughter-ship!
