The Prodigal Son

Bob Deffinbaugh, Lost and Found. The parable of the Prodigal Son is found in Luke 15. In this article, Bob Deffinbaugh explores the chapter as a whole and the role Jesus' parable of the prodigal son plays within it. For the purposes of this message, the elder brother is a picture of a person who is not at peace with God, with others, or with himself.

Action Step #1

Admit and release any anger, hostility, or bitterness you've had against God so that you can experience peace with God through Jesus Christ.

2. The peace of God…

2. The peace of God calls us to be at peace with others.

The Western Wall

Around 19 BC Herod the Great began a massive expansion project on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. In addition to fully rebuilding and enlarging the Temple, he expanded the platform on which it stood, doubling it in size. Today's Western Wall formed part of the retaining perimeter wall of this platform. The Wall is the holiest place where Jews are permitted to pray near the Temple Mount, though it is not the holiest site in the Jewish faith, which lies behind it. The term 'Wailing Wall' is not used by Jews and increasingly many others who consider it derogatory.

Action Step #2

Take one concrete step this week to repair a damaged relationship.

If there's turmoil in your heart…

If there's turmoil in your heart, there will be turmoil in your life. (There's a reason conflict, chaos, and drama seem to follow certain people.)

3. The peace of God…

3. The peace of God calms our troubled hearts.

Action Step #3

Ask God to heal your troubled heart so that you can experience peace with God, peace with others, and peace within.

Memory Verse Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
