Holy Week Services

We invite you to join us for our Holy Week services beginning today, Palm Sunday, April 9 - Easter Sunday, April 16. Though we use this week to remember the journey Christ made to the cross, and then celebrate the victory of resurrection, we also pray that you invite a neighbor, friend or family member who doesn't know the Lord to this week of events, as the gospel of Christ and opportunities for salvation will be extended to all. For full details, including services & times, visit our website below.

I. Introduction

a. Luke brings distinct nuances in his synoptic gospel as the beloved physician as described in Colossians 4:14.

b. What are the nuances that Luke gives us in his gospel?

c. In Luke, Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah, the Savior of humanity.
II. Passover, as unleavened bread, predicts the cleansing power of Christ’s blood
(Luke 22:7)
Lyric:

There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Immanuel's veins;
And sinners, plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains:
Lose all their guilty stains;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood,
Lose all their guilty stains.
William Cowper
III. Passover predicts an anticipated meal in eternity with Christ
(Luke 22:15-16)
IV. Passover represents Christ’s body broken for our sins
(Luke 22:19)
V. The Passover cup is the blood of a new covenant made with the people of God
(Luke 22:20)
Quote:

My heart rejoices to look on him whom I have pierced, and see his blood, as the lamb’s blood, sprinkled on my lintel and my door-post, and see his bones unbroken, and to believe that not a bone of his spiritual body shall be broken hereafter; and rejoice, also, to see him roasted in the fire, because thereby I see that he satisfied God for that roasting which I ought to have suffered in the torment of hell for ever and ever.
Charles Spurgeon
VI. Passover anticipates the suffering of betrayal
(Luke 22:21-23)
Quote:

If we have the blood on us, we shall see the angel coming, we shall smile at him; we shall dare to come even to God’s face and say, “Great God! I’m clean! Through Jesus’ blood, I’m clean! But if, my hearer, thine unwashen spirit shall stand unshriven before its maker, if thy guilty soul shall appear with all its blacks spots upon it, unsprinkled with the purple tide, how wilt those speak when thou seest flash from the scabbard the angel’s sword swift for death and winged for destruction, and when it shall cleave thee asunder?
Charles Spurgeon
