Whenever there are multiple versions of something of value, it’s important to compare them. This is true for coin collectors and it's also true for the four biblical gospels that serve as a record of Jesus’ life and work. In fact, this weekend in worship, Pastor Neal will show that a lot can be learned about Mark’s gospel by looking at the other three.
Mark writes the first gospel with a choppy, action-oriented style, that only includes the public ministry of Jesus. Mark leaves the rest of Jesus' life for Matthew and Luke to tell, and the meaning of it all, to John.
GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. Before this sermon, how much information about the four gospels were you familiar with?
2. When you read the different gospels, how might knowing this information make a difference?
3. If someone asked you which gospel to read first, which would you tell them and why?

Did Matthew, Mark and Luke copy each other?

There is a substantial amount of great material comparing these three gospels. Here is a starting place.

Neil Armstrong

Looking at what has been written about this famous American can give us insight about why the gospels included the information they did.

Mark 1: 14, 15
14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
GROWTH GROUP / PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1. What has been your understanding of the Kingdom of God?
2. Why would Jesus recommend that repentance be our response to this news?
3. How might we seek to live in God’s kingdom rather than the kingdom of the flesh?
Next step:
Consider one challenging situation or circumstance in your life. What is one way you might address it through the lense of God’s Kingdom?
