Welcome to our summer series entitled JOURNEY with the FAITHFUL. Over the next three months we are going to be looking at the lives of a number of men and women in the Bible. Each of them chose to leave their comfort zone to follow God and do what He wanted them to do.
Each person had to GET UP and GO; they had to move from HERE to THERE.
Each person had to GET UP and GO; they had to move from HERE to THERE.
We have been using a bridge to convey the idea of crossing over from one location to another. Bridges come in all shapes an sizes, but each one makes us think of crossing over some obstacle to reach the opportunity that God is leading us toward. Remember God saved us so we can have a relationship with Him to accomplish His will. God has a mission and purpose for our life.
Today's text is found in Acts 11:22-24 [NASB] and we are talking about a man named Barnabas.
Antioch was located about 300 miles north of Jerusalem and about 20 miles inland of the Mediterranean Sea. At the time it was considered the third largest city of the Roman Empire.
Why Barnabas? Here are a couple of verses that help explain why they sent him.
Acts 4:36-37- raised in a culture similar to Antioch; he would have been respected and trusted. Exhibited generosity, humility, and self-sacrifice.
Acts 9:26-28- Barnabas showed warm acceptance of Saul (Paul) where some still questioned his genuine conversion.

Application and Discussion Questions:
1. Who has played the role of Barnabas in your life? How were they intentional about defending, encouraging, affirming, and sharing their faith with you?
2. The last time God asked you to “go” or cross over from here to there, did you rely on your faith in God or did you try to do it on your own? What did you learn? Be specific.
3. We learned how Barnabas was able to be generous in many ways because of his faith. Think about your life and the different ways you can be generous (time, talents, and treasures). Are there areas you can improve in? Explain.
4. Who in your life can you be a Barnabas to? What will be your first step?
