1. What was the Pharisees’ motive in bringing this woman before Jesus?
- Where did this take place? Why was this most likely a “set up?”
- How did Jesus respond? Why did he respond this way?
2. What might Jesus have stooped down and written in the dust (see 8:6)?
Compare Exodus 31:18 and John 8:6 – see any connections? What are they?
- How would you react/respond if you:
- Were the woman? In the crowd?
- How did Jesus respond? Why did He respond this way?
- How did Jesus as “the Light of the world” change this woman’s life?
3. What usually happens when people’s sins and failures are dragged out into the open and exposed?
- Why are people so willing to judge and condemn others despite their own weaknesses?
- Why is Jesus so UNWILLING to judge and condemn others despite his right to do so?
- Who do you need to forgive and “drop the rock?”
TAKE AWAY: WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND THE DEPTH OF YOUR SIN AND THE DEPTH OF GOD’S LOVE IN FORGIVING YOU, YOU WANT TO SIN NO MORE!

4. What incorrect assumption did the disciples make about the cause of the man’s blindness?
- Why was the man born blind?
- Instead of asking, “Why did God allow this?” what should we ask?
- What did Jesus “see” in this man that no one else did?
- In reading the rest of the story (John 9:6-41), what transformation takes place in the man beyond his healing?
- How did Jesus as “the Light of the world” change this man’s life?
- Do you think he thought it was worth it to have been born blind? Why or why not?
- What about the woman caught in adultery, do you think she thought it was worth it? Why or why not?
TAKE AWAY: EXPERIENCING GOD’S POWER BRINGS TRANSFROMATION (BOTH INSIDE AND OUT!)
