I. Introduction:
a. The book of Romans was written by Paul of Corinth not long after he wrote his 2nd letter to Corinth.
b. Paul came to a city where a church had already been established and thus he had an initial receptive audience within this framework.
c. Romans 1:13 informs us that his primary audience were Gentiles.
d. Our focus for today is Romans chapter 8, where we find Paul leading the reader to a premise that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ and who are walking in the Spirit. This is just after he delineates the constant conflict between the flesh or sinful nature and the spirit.
e. Paul then begins to speak of some laws that can be at work in our members: The law of sin and death - the carnal law, the law of the Spirit and the Mosaic law. He also describes the interactions between these laws.
f. This then leads into a discussion on the theology of adoption. Now, this theology is a description of our relationship with God. However, I would like for us to consider that the journey of adoption in this life is an illustration or, better yet, a microcosm of what is going on in the heavenlies - the act of adoption itself, which may bring to light your own standing with God.
