Psalm 122:1-9
1 I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!” 2 Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem! 3 Jerusalem—built as a city that is bound firmly together, 4 to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD. 5 There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you! 7 Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!” 8 For my brothers and companions’ sake I will say, “Peace be within you!” 9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good.
6 Reasons I’m glad that we worship TOGETHER:
(1) Because our faith is better together than alone (122:1)
(2) Because we’re traveling to a common destination (122:2, 3)
(3) Because our differences serve a greater purpose (122:4)
(4) Because we may need help remembering to be thankful (122:4)
(5) Because we remind one another of our true peace and security (Ps. 122:5-8).
(6) Because we desire another’s good, not simply our own (122:8-9)
(1)Because our faith is better together than alone (122:1)

•Let us exalt his name together – Ps. 34:3
•Let us sing unto the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Ps. 95:1
•Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! Ps. 95:6
•This is the day that the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it (Ps. 118:24)
•Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool (Ps 132:7)

•If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. (Gal 5:25)
•Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. (Gal 5:26)
•And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (Gal 6:9)
•So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Gal 6:10)
(2) Because we’re traveling to a common destination (122:2, 3)

Revelation 21:1-4 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
(3) Because our differences serve a greater purpose (122:4)

1 Cor. 12:4-6 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
(4) Because we may need help remembering to be thankful (122:4)

Job 1:21
The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.”

Truth 1: During our most difficult times, God is still in control.
Truth 2: During our most difficult times, God can still be praised.
Truth 3: During our most difficult times, I may need help remembering those first two truths.
(5) Because we remind one another of our true source of peace (Ps. 122:6-8).

We pray for peace because God is the source of peace.

Phil 4 :6
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Phil 4:8
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

We pray for peace because God is the source of peace.
We can only have the peace of God when we know the God of peace.

Col. 1:20
19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
(6) Because we desire another’s good, not simply our own (122:8-9)

When we gather together our focus is on God and others, not self.

Our desire is that visitors would become friends, and friends would become family.
