What does "getting back to normal" look like for you right now?

Jesus' teaching in the sermon on the mount is not about a new way of believing, but going back to the original intent of God's word and intensifying it by getting to the heart of the matter.
1. The Word of God shapes us, we do not shape the Word of God

the religious leaders taught Scripture from a perspective and in a way that benefited their own lives.

The religious leaders of Jesus' day had removed God fully out of His own Word.

the Word of God is given to us to guide us into who He has created us to become

We don’t get to do whatever we want and then somehow interpret scripture for our own selfish motives.

We must dig deep into the spiritual meaning, the spiritual content of all of scripture inspired by God himself and ask the question...so who am I?

2. Check your attitude

anger - to hate; to harbor bitterness; to hold resentment; to swell

Why is anger wrong?

a. it negatively impacts your relationship with Christ

we find our identity in Christ not in our circumstances

b. it negatively impacts your relationships with others

Ephesians 4

Romans 12:18- as long as you have it in your power, live at peace with everyone.

Righteousness with God and harm toward others cannot exist together

Romans 5:9 - God withholds his wrath because of Jesus and you should too.

3. Watch your mouth

Out of the mouth the heart speaks - Matthew 12:34

"raca" - I spit on you

words destroy the spirit and soul of a person

1 John 2:9 whoever says he is in the light but hates his brother is still in darkness.

Tearing someone down with words - gossip, slander, sarcasm are destructive

4. So what will you do?

Righteous vs. Unrighteous anger

The more we become like Christ, the more we grow into him, the more anger we should feel toward sin. Romans 12:9 detest or hate sin.

What are you doing to make things right with those you hold anger against?
